OUR COLLABORATIVE APPROACH TO SHARED CARE

How We Work Alongside Referrers
At Mindful Living, we know that healing doesn’t happen in isolation. Many clients experience their most meaningful progress when surrounded by a network of support – GPs, psychologists, occupational therapists, social workers, school counsellors, NDIS providers, carers and others – working together with a shared, trauma-informed approach.
This blog outlines how we partner with referring professionals to ensure clients receive consistent, coordinated and compassionate care throughout their therapeutic journey.
We Value Relationships
Whether you’re referring for EMDR therapy, couples work, family sessions or group programs, our goal is to make your role easier, not more complicated.
We understand the value of clear clinical handovers, shared insights and mutual respect across disciplines. We don’t just ‘take over’ care, we work in partnership with you. With client consent, we maintain open communication and encourage collaborative input around goals, updates and ongoing support needs.
What You Can Expect When You Refer to Us
Every client referred to us receives care that is:
- Personalised – We take the time to understand their story, context, and current capacity.
- Phased – Whether they are ready for reprocessing or need stabilisation first, we tailor the pace.
- Collaborative – We value your professional insights and will share relevant updates where appropriate.
- Client-led – Therapy is collaborative and guided by the client’s goals, needs and preferences.
For clients linked in with multiple services, we offer shared care planning and are happy to liaise with other providers (with consent) to ensure consistent and integrated support.
Keeping Referrers in the Loop
We understand that timely, respectful communication helps you stay informed and involved in care. With client permission, we can offer:
Intake summaries where helpful
Progress updates or reports for Mental Health Care Plans or NDIS reviews
Consultation around EMDR suitability or group-based interventions
Shared goal-setting where therapeutic support overlaps (e.g. OT + psychologist + GP)
If you’re ever unsure whether a client is ready for EMDR or if our services are a good fit, our clinical intake team is happy to provide guidance or help the client explore their options.
A Note on Referring for EMDR
EMDR therapy is a core offering at Mindful Living and can play an important role within a broader support system. All of our clinicians are EMDR-trained and trauma-informed, using a phased, responsive approach that may include:
Preparation, stabilisation and nervous system resourcing
Flexible EMDR protocols
Complementary modalities such as parts work, somatic therapy, DBT, ACT and more
Collaborative trauma reprocessing
Closure, meaning-making and future planning
We’re also experienced in supporting clients with:
Complex trauma and developmental wounding
Attachment trauma and relationship repair
Dissociation and dissociative identity presentations
Sensory processing or neurodivergence
Children, teens and family systems
Family violence, generational trauma and identity exploration
Couples navigating trauma and relational repair
Anxiety or fear around engaging in trauma therapy
We also offer EMDR intensives as a cost-effective and time-efficient option for suitable clients who prefer focused trauma processing over a shorter period, rather than once-weekly sessions.
