EMDR Group Program for EMDR Therapists

The Mindful Living
EMDR Group Program for EMDR Therapists

Mindful Living’s Online EMDR Group Program offers a unique opportunity for EMDR therapists to experience EMDR Therapy in a supportive group setting. This three week innovative program, the first of its kind globally, is designed to help therapists address barriers or blocking beliefs affecting their clinical work, as well as reprocess personal issues in an efficient and cost-effective manner. Participants will be guided by two skilled and experienced EMDR facilitators, ensuring comprehensive support throughout the process. This program integrates art therapy to facilitate deeper processing and provides a collaborative environment where therapists can enhance their personal wellbeing and professional effectiveness.

What is the EMDR Group Program for EMDR Therapists?

Our Group EMDR Program is an innovative treatment designed specifically for EMDR therapists. This program leverages the Integrative Group Treatment Protocol (IGTP) by Dr. Ignacio Jarero, thoughtfully adapted to meet the unique needs of therapists. The program consists of three weekly 2-hour group sessions, where participants engage in structured EMDR processing phases. Through bilateral stimulation techniques, such as butterfly taps and eye movements, and elements of art therapy, participants experience deeper emotional processing.

Each session begins with installing a calm place and resource team, drawing from Attachment Informed EMDR techniques. Participants then move into the EMDR ‘processing’ phase, where they work through traumatic or painful life experiences without sharing personal details, ensuring privacy and emotional safety. This approach is highly effective in reducing symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, and depression.

  • Three weekly group EMDR sessions, each lasting 120 minutes
  • Resource booklet
  • Resource figure suggestion list

  • Paper and crayons for processing

  • Post-it-notes to record SUDS

  • Sticky dots for eye movements

  • Tea and chocolate

Why should I choose to do this?

Engaging in the Group EMDR Program offers a unique opportunity for EMDR therapists to experience the therapeutic process from the client’s perspective. This experiential learning enhances empathy, insight, and confidence in applying EMDR techniques with clients. Participating in group sessions provides personal growth and professional development within a supportive community of peers.

Additionally, the program allows therapists to address personal issues or professional blocks, fostering a deeper understanding of EMDR dynamics and impact. By participating, therapists can witness firsthand how EMDR techniques are effectively applied in a group setting, ultimately leading to more effective and compassionate therapeutic practices.

How much personal information is disclosed during group sessions?

During EMDR group therapy at Mindful Living, participants do not disclose details of their trauma memories to other group participants or the group facilitators. Whether attending in person or online, verbal communication among group members is limited, fostering an environment that feels containing, supportive, and helps reduce feelings of isolation and stigma. If at any point during the group sessions you feel overwhelmed and need assistance, the group facilitators will be available to provide support and ensure your safety.

Each group session is facilitated by two EMDR therapists to ensure that all group participants are safe and supported throughout the process.

What are the benefits of an EMDR Group Program?

  • Improvement in Symptoms: The program significantly reduces symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, depression, and emotional distress. Participants often experience faster relief from trauma-related symptoms compared to traditional therapy methods.
  • Privacy and Safety: The non-disclosure of personal details ensures privacy and reduces the chance of being overwhelmed by memories or emotions, creating a safe environment for processing trauma.
  • Cost-Effective and Accessible: Group EMDR Therapy offers a cost-effective way to access EMDR treatment. It is particularly beneficial for those unable to afford individual therapy sessions or facing long waiting lists for one-on-one therapy.
  • Enhanced Professional Skills: Experiencing EMDR as a client strengthens therapists’ professional skills, providing valuable insights and improving client outcomes.
  • Cultural Accessibility: The use of worksheets and drawing during processing sessions removes cultural barriers, making the program accessible to a diverse range of participants.

Group EMDR vs Traditional EMDR Therapy

Group EMDR Therapy:

  • Structure: Consists of three weekly sessions, each lasting 120 minutes, focusing solely on EMDR processing phases.
  • Privacy: Participants do not share their experiences during the sessions, ensuring privacy and emotional safety.
  • Support: The group setting provides a sense of belonging and emotional support despite the lack of verbal sharing.
  • Effectiveness: Group EMDR Therapy has been shown to be effective in reducing symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, and depression in various populations, including cancer patients, refugees, and healthcare workers.

Traditional EMDR Therapy

  • Structure: Typically involves weekly or fortnightly individual sessions, each lasting around 50 minutes.
  • Disclosure: Clients share their experiences and daily struggles with the therapist, practicing therapeutic strategies and discussing issues between sessions.
  • Focus: The therapist is aware of what the client is processing, allowing for more personalized and detailed therapeutic interventions.
  • Progression: Traditional EMDR Therapy often takes longer to achieve trauma resolution compared to the concentrated approach of group sessions.

By participating in the Group EMDR Program, therapists can experience a unique and effective form of EMDR therapy that complements traditional methods, providing both personal and professional growth opportunities.
