At Mindful Living, we are thrilled to introduce our EMDR Group Program, designed to offer comprehensive support and therapy for individuals navigating trauma and related challenges. Our program, based on the IGTP protocol by Ignacio Jarero, Ph.D., Ed.D., has been thoughtfully adapted to meet the unique needs of our clients. But it’s not what you might think.

What Group EMDR Isn’t

Group EMDR is many wonderful things, but it’s not:

  • Traditional Group Therapy: There’s no sharing of stories, feelings, or ideas.
  • About Talking: Most of what happens in Group EMDR stays completely private, even from the therapist facilitators.
  • Inaccessible: It’s affordable and offers an additional ten Medicare rebates under a mental health care plan from a GP.
Privacy and Confidentiality

A common concern in group therapy settings is the sharing of personal information. At Mindful Living, we prioritise privacy and confidentiality. Participants in our EMDR groups do not share specific trauma memories with fellow members or facilitators. This approach fosters a safe and supportive environment where individuals can explore their healing journey without fear of judgment or exposure.

What Do You Do In Group EMDR?
  • Learn about how EMDR works
  • Grounding and resourcing: learn various grounding strategies and create a resource team of nurturers, protectors and wise figures.
  • Reprocess memories using drawing, tapping and eye movement: the drawing replaces speaking and aids your brain to successfully reprocess memories.
  • Use the resource team to help further process emotions and create support.
Foundations Group EMDR Program (3 Weeks)
  • Is for anyone new to therapy or new to EMDR therapy.
  • Provides a supportive environment to learn practical tools for effectively coping with distressing emotions.
  • You’ll also engage in EMDR procedures to reprocess one or more life memories, aiming to alleviate trauma symptoms and enhance your quality of life.
Next Steps Group EMDR Program (3 Weeks)
  • For people who have completed Foundations.
  • Expands on the skills acquired in Foundations.
  • Provides further memory reprocessing using EMDR procedures.
  • Aims to further alleviate your trauma symptoms.
  • Also involves envisioning positive future scenarios to increase confidence and a sense of empowerment for your future.

The ‘Next Steps’ group can be repeated as desired, to provide continued support on your journey toward emotional well-being.

Group EMDR therapy offers emotional containment through the group experience, reduces stigma around seeking mental health help, provides quicker access to EMDR, and offers a cost-effective way to engage with the therapy. Participants can expect improvements in various areas of their lives, from mood and relationships to day-to-day functioning and clarity of thought.

Group therapy can be a great adjunct to one-on-one therapy, allowing clients to access up to 20 therapy rebates each year.

Experienced Facilitators

Central to the success of our EMDR Group Program is our team of experienced therapists. Each session is led by two trained EMDR therapists who guide participants through the process with expertise and compassion. Their extensive training ensures that every individual receives the support they need to navigate their unique healing path.
