Joel Taylor
Accredited Mental Health Social Worker

Joel (he/him) is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker, Counsellor and EMDR trained therapist. Joel has a variety of experience in the mental health sector with a special interest working with adolescents, people experiencing grief and loss and working with complex trauma. Joel’s therapuetic experience includes working in high schools, in the community sector, and in psycho-oncology. Joel enjoys working with those from the LGBTIQ+ community.
Joel is an approachable and collaborative therapist who works with the strengths of each individual. Joel utilises a range of therapeutic approaches such as EMDR therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), solution-focused therapy and narrative therapy. He combines these approaches with a critical social work lens, which enables him to understand broader community and structural systems and work in a holistic way, taking into account a person’s overall wellbeing. Joel believes that therapy can be fun, and brings his humour and personality to the therapeutic relationship.
In addition to working at Mindful Living, Joel works in the community sector with children who have experienced significant developmental trauma.
Outside of work, Joel enjoys being a father to his son, socialising with friends and family, and if this can overlap with his hobbies of being out in nature, hiking and cycling, then he is in a happy place.
